The doctors of Vista Eye Care Associates have been providing the highest quality eye care for decades. LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery have been a part of our care from the outset. Dr. Soloway is one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the country and has among the best outcomes. He has been certified by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance, and is the ONLY doctor in the tri-state area to achieve this rigorous and ongoing certification.
Many doctors offering refractive surgery and LASIK will tell you about their volume and results and may have different fees for LASIK surgery, however these numbers can be misleading. At Vista we want you to remember that price is only one of the issues (examples of others are the surgeon's experience, skill level, and results) that you should consider. It can be difficult for a patient to gauge these other things however. We recommend that you come in for a complimentary consultation (most LASIK surgeons do not charge for the initial visit), and see the doctor's office. Find out if there are there other people there for evaluations. Are there patients in the waiting room who have had the procedure who you can speak with on the spot? Will the office allow you to observe the doctor in surgery (and is the surgeon operating every week)? Any surgeon claiming to have done thousands of LASIK surgeries will surely be able to offer all of these things as we do. Don't forget to find out who will be doing the surgery, and where you will receive your follow-up care after the surgery, making sure you are comfortable with the arrangements.
Dr. Soloway has performed over six thousand LASIK surgeries, and is the Director of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's Vision Correction Center. He is also in charge of the Alcon Center for Education in LASIK for the newest flying spot tracking Autonomous LADARVision® excimer laser. This excimer laser is a leap forward as it tracks the eye 4000 times per second in order to accurately place the laser beam in the correct position even when the eye moves (and it always moves at least a little bit). An additional very large benefit of this laser is that it is able to treat MUCH larger optical zones than any other laser. This has the great benefit of reducing glare at night in patients with larger pupils. Dr. Soloway has trained surgeons from New York, around the country and around the world in LASIK. We also offer patients a number of different methods of surgical vision correction, instead of trying to fit everyone into just one type. Dr. Soloway is the only surgeon in the Northeast who also provides: LASEK, Intacs® corneal implants for low levels of nearsightedness, ICL® phakic implants for high levels of near- and far-sightedness, as well as SRP implants for presbyopia reversal. Ongoing research in all fields of vision correction surgery allows us to have the most up to date Alcon Summit Autonomous LADARVision and Visx laser (smoothscan, with larger zone treatment) as well as a number of keratomes such as the highly automated SKBM, the "Down up LASIK" Hansatome and Moria C-B, as well as the small sized Moria LSK One for comfortably providing LASIK to patients with very small eyes.
