"Live at Five" Medical Report WNBC TV, channel 4, New York, NY
Dr. Barrie Soloway of Vista Alliance Eye Care Associates appeared on the July 10 Channel 4 "Live At Five" newscast where the program filmed him performing the first farsighted LASIK laser eye surgery in New York State. Speaking with Dr. Max Gomez, Dr. Soloway who has been the only physician in New York State to offer this new, cutting edge surgery to patients in FDA monitored clinical trials, demonstrated how this surgery works for farsighted people.
In the segment, Dr. Max Gomez speaks with Dr. Soloway's patient, Ginny Koplo, who is featured in the operating room. She tells Max before her surgery: "I can't dial a telephone or walk down the street without wearing glasses. I can't wear contact lenses because I can't see the lens to be able to place them in my eye."
The segment shows Dr. Soloway operating on his patient, and reshaping the cornea to get it to focus better on the retina.
Says Dr. Soloway: "By the next morning, patients are seeing extremely well. Ninety five percent of their vision is recovered, and the surgery is completely painfree."
Dr. Max Gomez speaks with Ginny after she comes out of her surgery where she exclaims, "The procedure is easier than having your teeth cleaned."
