Dr. Richard Maw was born and raised in the Mid-west, and attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Iowa. He completed his medical internship at the Tuscon's Hospital Medical Education Program in Tuscon, AZ. During medical school and his internship he published scientific research in ophthalmology and plastic reconstructive surgery.
After choosing to specialize in ophthalmic surgery, Dr. Maw was accepted to receive his residency training at the world renowned New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Maw accepted a fellowship position in the ophthalmic sub-specialty of refractive surgery with Dr. Soloway serving as his preceptor. During this year of additional training, Dr. Maw gained expertise from Dr. Soloway in several areas of refractive surgery including LASIK (with the VISX and Autonomous lasers), Intacs corneal ring segments, SRP surgery (surgical reversal of presbyopia), and ICL's (intraocular lenses).
Dr. Maw works closely with Dr. Soloway on his numerous clinical research projects that have been presented to world leaders in refractive surgery at the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery conferences. Dr. Maw is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Maw underwent LASIK laser vision correction surgery by Dr. Soloway in July, 1999 when he started his fellowship, and has had excellent results. He would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
