Dr. Ruelas frequently lectures to optometrists and optometry students in the New York area in the areas of LASIK pre and post-operation management. She helps train ophthalmology surgeons in surgical reversal of presbyopia, as well as during Dr. Soloway's LASIK certification courses. In addition, Dr. Ruelas has undergone extensive optometric training in managing post-operative cataract and glaucoma patients. Current research activities include improvements in outcomes of surgical reversal of presbyopia. Vision is Dr. Ruelas's area of expertise, with both surgical and non-surgical methods such as contact lenses. She provides a full range of contact lenses at Vista, including soft, toric, rigid gas permeable, bifocal, mono-vision and medical such as keratoconus fittings. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Ruelas is a member of the American Optometric Association, the New York State Optometric Association, and the Society of Systems Operators for laser vision correction She is also a fully certified operator of the laser systems used for LASIK. Dr. Ruelas has had the LASIK procedure performed by Dr. Soloway in February, 1999.
