"Fox on Health" FOX NEWS National Cable Program
Dr. Barrie Soloway of Vista Alliance Eye Care Associates was featured on August 22 and August 23, on the national cable program "Fox on Health" on the Fox News Channel, where he described to anchor Carol Iovanna, how LASIK laser eye surgery for people with hyperopia (farsightedness) works. Until now, excimer laser surgery has only been available for people who have nearsightedness. Dr. Soloway has been the only physician in New York State to offer this new, cutting edge surgery to patients in clinical trials.
Dr. Soloway tells Carol Iovanna, "For this surgery we lift the protective flap of the cornea, and we laser a ring of tissue with the laser moving around in a flying spot pattern so that we can get it to better focus on the retina."
When asked who is a candidate for this particular surgery, Dr. Soloway responds, "The people need to have stable vision with a prescription that shouldn't be changing over time. And of course, to be a candidate, you must be in good, general health."
Carol Iovanna asks Dr. Soloway when the surgery is expected to be approved here in the U.S.
"The word is, according to the laser manufacturer, that the FDA should have approvals in the next couple of months."
