How SSP
works

Currently, there is no way to stop or slow the growth of the lens in the eye.  Ronald Schachar, M.D., Ph.D. has discovered that the area around the lens can be enlarged with the insertion of a presview scleral implant for scleral spacing.

During Phase I clinical trials, a pre-set diamond knife was used to create a measured opening and tunnel in the white part of the eye.  The development of the PresviewDrive has automated this step, and is designed to make the scleral tunnel position more reliable and the results more predictable.  The presview scleral implant is then inserted into the tunnel.

After the surgery, the membrane (conjunctiva) over the white part of the eye is closed.

The presview scleral implants allow the lens to have more room to work

And this allows the lens to focus up close again
