Your LASIK Experience
LASIK delivers faster healing time, more comfort for patients, and fewer side effects than other types of laser vision correction. In this procedure the corneal surface cells are folded to one side creating a "flap". A cool laser beam gently reshapes the cornea, then the flap is folded back into position. The LASIK procedure is performed in a room similar to a Vista Alliance exam room, not in a hospital, and no general anesthesia or stitches are involved. The eye is numbed with the same drops used during a glaucoma test. The laser treatment itself takes less than a minute, and the total procedure takes about ten minutes per eye. You lie flat on a reclining chair while your eye is held open with a special instrument and steadied by a small suction device. You're asked to look at a light to center your eye under the laser. Afterward, your eye is protected with a clear shield until a follow-up appointment the next day. Your doctor will check the cornea regularly to make sure it's healing properly. Most of our patients go back to work one or two days after treatment. They report that up to 80% of their vision is corrected immediately after the procedure, however it may be a little like looking through a misty car window. A significant improvement is usual by the next morning with maximum improvement in two to seven days.
