"Midday Live News" WNBC TV channel 4, New York, NY
Dr. Barrie Soloway of Vista Alliance Eye Care Associates was featured live onset on the July 13 "Channel 4 Midday News" program on New York's NBC station. There, he described to anchor Dean Shepherd, the benefits of LASIK laser eye surgery for people with hyperopia (farsightedness). Until now, excimer laser surgery has only been available for people who have nearsightedness. Dr. Soloway has been the only physician in New York State to offer this new, cutting edge surgery to patients in clinical trials.
Dr. Soloway explained that he uses the laser for a farsighted surgical procedure differently than the way he uses it to correct nearsighted vision.
"The laser needs to scan around the eye in order for us to obtain a better focus for these people," says Dr. Soloway.
Dean Shepherd asks Dr. Soloway about recovery time.
Says Dr. Soloway, "For both near and farsighted patients, they typically can go back to work the next day. The surgery is deceptively simplelasting about 15 to 20 minutes."
