YOUR EYES

Tips On Protecting And Improving Your Vision

(NAPSI)-Here's eye-opening news: Recent research may help many people break the "glasses" ceiling. That is, they may never have to wear glasses or contact lenses again.

Opthalmologists (medical doctors specializing in eye care) have discovered a way to use laser light to correct vision problems. Whether a person is nearsighted or farsighted, he or she can have a fast and painless procedure called LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis). In many cases, the patient ends up with 20/20 vision without glasses or contact lenses.

People who need reading glasses can turn to another technique called SRP (Surgical Reversal of Presbyopia).

Here's how ophthalmologist Barrie Soloway, M.D., F.A.C.S, Surgical Director of Vista Alliance Eye Care Associates and Director of the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary's Vision Correction Center, explains LASIK surgery: he simply lifts the surface of the cornea by creating a moveable flap, removes excess tissue and reshapes the cornea. Finally, he lets the flap reseal over the eye like a natural bandage for a smooth finish. One patient found the surgery "easier than having her teeth cleaned."

It requires only eye-drop anesthesia and about 15 minutes. Most people can see immediate results and can return to work the next day.

Contact lens wearers are freed from the need to fear infection or allergic reactions.

Anyone interested in a free consultation to determine if he or she is a candidate for one of these procedures can call 1-888-NYLASIK or see Dr. Soloway's website at www.nylasik.com
